Utah: Supreme Court delays execution

The Utah Supreme Court recently announced that more evaluation was required to determine whether death row inmate Ralph Menzies is competent to be executed.

The justices ruled that another competency evaluation was needed to determine whether Mr Menzies who has dementia can legally be executed.

Mr Menzies attorneys argued that Mr Menzies vascular dementia disease has progressed to the point where he can no longer understand what is happening.

A recent article has reported that Utah’s and the United States’ constitutions prohibit the government from executing someone if they dont’ understand that they are being executed and the reasons why.
