Firing squad execution methods: moral and practical problems

A recent article has explored the moral and practical problems associated with the firing squad execution method.

Dr Groner, an expert on death penalty methods and retired surgeon, says that upon examining autopsy pictures of Ronnie Lee Gardner, who was executed by firing squad in Utah, the images raised questions regarding the efficacy of a firing squad.

Dr Goner said it was concerning that some of the bullets may have not gone to where the heart is, and that Ronnie did not die quickly. Dr Goner considered that it appeared that it was possible that there was some sort of implicit bias in the execution process.
